The recognition of the person and mission of Christ serves to inform and inspire the three great parts of the church’s mission:
The Foundation
The first part forms the foundation of the church.
- A confession: Christ is the Son of the living God.
- A revelation: The church is built on the truth of his identity.
- An advance: The gates of hell will not prevail against his kingdom.
The Conflict
The second part of the church’s mission is to realise that the church is involved in an immense conflict.
- A distinct contrast with the world: The true church stands apart in holiness and mission.
- A cosmic conquest: Christ’s victory is both earthly and heavenly.
- A satanic opposition: The church will suffer, but it will not be defeated.
The Victory
The third part of the church’s mission is to realise that the future of the church is absolutely secure.
- The return of Jesus: A glorious and triumphant culmination.
- A great judgment: Justice for the world, vindication for the faithful.
- A heavenly consummation: The glorification of Christ and the restoration of all things.
